WEALTH News & Events

Prof Alan Donnelly presented the STAMIFY WEALTH Project at the mid-term meeting in Brussels on the 9th of October which was the first ever joint HDHL Management, Scientific and Stakeholder Board Meeting.
Prof. Alan Donnelly presented at the International Conference on Diet and Activity Methods (ICDAM) 2023 in Limerick, he discussed the objectives of the WEALTH project today as well as how they plan to achieve their aim of producing a measurement system that will simultaneously capture Physical Behaviours and Eating Behaviours, harnessing data from multiple devices
Michael Janek presented the findings based on real data from the WEALTH pilot at The International Society of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity in Sweden, with interesting simulation of EMA across different settings such as walking and sitting.
The International Society for Physical Activity and Health Congress was held in October 2024. The WEALTH project presented their symposium Real-life assessment of physical activity – Insights from the WEALTH European project, led by Prof Jean-Michel Oppert. Members of the WEALTH Consortium presented including Prof Alan Donnelly (UL), Dr Christoph Buck (BIPS), Prof Greet Cardon (UGent), and Dr Tomas Vetrovsky (UHK) with discussant Prof Sebastien Chastin (GCU).

In June 2024, the WEALTH project had a symposium in ICAMPAM, hosted by The International Society for Measurement of Physical Behaviour in Rennes France.

There was three presentations focused on the WEALTH study design for labeled data assessment, the first by Dr Christoph Buck of BIPS. This was followed by a presentation on classification of physical behaviours using hip- and wrist-worn accelerometry by Dr Annika Swenne also from BIPS. Dr Luis Sigcha provided interesting insights on the development of Machine Learning algorithms for PA classification using data collected from research-grade tri-axial accelerometers.

Finally, Dr Alan Godfrey presented on Accelerometry and AI: Developing Behavioural (Bio) Markers.

In June 2024, the final Annual Consortium Meeting of the WEALTH Consortium took place in the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology (BIPS) in Bremen, kindly hosted by Dr Antje Hebestreit, Dr Christoph Buck & colleagues.

The focus of the meeting was a project status update and then detailed discussion for each Work Package lead providing an overview presentation and analysis plan. There was also discussion around the WEALTH’s symposium to disseminate the WEALTH toolbox in 2025. Another important aspect of the project was the publication plan for the outputs of the project in both peer-reviewed journals and at international conferences.

In Oct 2023, the STAMIFY Call joint projects’ mid-term meeting was hosted by the ILVO, Flanders Research Institute in Brussels as was attended by Prof Alan Donnelly, WEALTH project lead and Ms. Ella Tyrrell, project manager.

It was an interactive gathering of all 6 STAMIFY project coordinators who provided the status of each of the funded projects and preliminary results were also presented. It was an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss potential synergies between projects.

In March 2024, we announced on our X page @JPI_HDHL_WEALTH that data collection with 600 participants across 4 countries for the WEALTH Project is was completed! This was a huge undertaking and some achievement for the team. Thank you to each and every team member that supported this goal, we are ever so grateful. We would also like to thank all our participants, they have been vital in helping us creating a large rich dataset for analysis.

In Sept 2023, the second WEALTH Annual Consortium Meeting was held in University of Limerick, Ireland, led by Prof Alan Donnelly.

The focus of this meeting was on the main data collection planned with 600 participants across four of our partners, this included a discussion on data collected to date, methods for collating the data to our central server, and a discussion of methods for machine learning. The overall knowledge translation and dissemination plan was discussed including the plan for core publications. Another area highlighted was capacity building for students linked to WEALTH.

SAA Conference June 2023 – Poster Presentation

Dr Steriani Elavsky presented a poster at the SAA conference 2023, on the cutting-edge EMA protocol within the WEALTH project, aimed at developing data processing methods for accelerometer devices using Machine Learning & EMA techniques.

Four countries are collecting data, Ireland, Germany, Czech Republic and Paris, with two additional partners in Belgium and Ireland

The first meeting of the WEALTH Advisory Panel took place on 22nd February 2023.

The WEALTH Advisory Panel consists of renowned experts with long-standing experience in measurement of diet and physical activity. The WEALTH project team presented the progress to date including the EMEA development and initial results from the pilot. The Advisory Panel provided valuable feedback on project and specific methods.
